Kumu Hula Jenn Kēhaulani Riddick
Aloha! My name is Kumu Kēhaulani. I was born and raised in central California. My `ohana is rooted in the Hawaiian culture with family ties to O`ahu, Kaua`i, Maui, the Big Island, Philippines, Portugual, and Japan. I began dancing hula with my Aunty Lei Fernandez in Marina, California when I was about five years old. When I was about twelve I began dancing with Kumu Kaimi Matthews. I moved to Honolulu in my early 20's and went on to live just outside of Washington, D.C. where I began studying hula more intently with Kumu Nui Paul K. Neves and later, his daughter, Kumu Hula Akala Nahikulani Neves. In August of 2015 I relocated to Austin, TX with my family. I was ʻuniki on January 23, 2016 in Keaukaha, HI. I began Hālau Ha`a Kea o Kēhaulani that same year and was handed the kuleana for Hālau Ha`a Kea o Mokihana in Washington, D.C. Through hula I seek to help my haumana create deeper connections within themselves, with each other and with the world around them.
